To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them. To die: to sleep; No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream: aye, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause: there's the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely, The pangs of despised love, the law's delay, The insolence of office, and the spurns That patient merit of the unworthy takes, When he himself might his quietus make With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscover'd country from whose bourn No traveler returns, puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have Than fly to others that we know not of? Thus conscience does make cowards of us all, And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, And enterprises of great pitch and moment With this regard their currents turn awry And lose the name of action.

1. "Puking""All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. ..."
所有的男男女女不过是一些演员;
出处:《皆大欢喜》(As You Like It),第二幕,第七场。
2. "Vanish into thin air""Then put up your pipes in your bag, for I'll away. Go; vanish into air; away!" (《
3. "There's a method to my madness""Though this be madness, yet there is method in 't. Will you walk out of the air, my lord?"
比吉斯(Bee Gees)乐队有一首歌曲名为《Method to My Madness》。
4. "Wild-goose chase""Nay, if they wits run the wild-goose chase, I have
done, for thou hast more of the wild-goose in one of
thy wits than, I am sure, I have in my whole five:
was I with you there for the goose?"
5. "The green eyed-monster""Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy!
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
The meat it feeds on."

6."Break the ice""... And if you break the ice and do this feat,
Achieve the elder, set the younger free
For our access, whose hap shall be to have her
Will not so graceless be to be ingrate."
出处:《驯悍记》(The Taming of the Shrew),第一幕,第二场。
7. "Wear my heart upon my sleeve""For when my outward action doth demonstrate
The native act and figure of my heart
In compliment extern, 'tis not long after
But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve
For daws to peck at: I am not what I am."
8. "Swagger""What hempen home-spuns have we swaggering here,
So near the cradle of the fairy queen?
What, a play toward! I'll be the auditor;
An actor too, perhaps, if I see cause."
哈,在那儿演戏!让我作一个听戏的吧;

9. "All of a sudden""I pray, sir, tell me, is it possible
That love should of a sodaine take such hold?"
莎士比亚用法:显然,莎士比亚认为“all of a sudden”比用“suddenly”一词更诗意。

10."A heart of gold""The king's a bawcock, and a heart of gold,
A lad of life, an imp of fame;
Of parents good, of fist most valiant. ..."
11. "One fell swoop""He has no children. All my pretty ones?
Did you say all? O hell-kite! All?
What, all my pretty chickens and their dam
At one fell swoop?"
12. "Devil incarnate""O worthy Goth, this is the incarnate devil
That robb'd Andronicus of his good hand." (Titus Andronicus)
"Yes, that a' did; and said they were devils incarnate." (Henry V)
13. "Stuff that dreams are made on/of""We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep."
14. "To come full circle""Thou hast spoken right, 'tis true;
The wheel has come full circle: I am here."
15. "In my heart of heart""Give me that man
That is not passion's slave, and I will wear him
In my heart's core, ay, in my heart of heart,
As I do thee."
16. "Too much of a good thing""Why then, can one desire too much of a good thing?
Come, sister, you shall be the priest and marry us.
Give me your hand, Orlando. What do you say, sister?"
17. "All that glitters is not gold""All that glitters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold:
Gilded tombs do worms enfold."
这话常听人说的分明;
18. "Good riddance"Thersites: "I will see you hanged, like clotpoles, ere I come any more to your tents: I will keep where there is wit stirring and leave the faction of fools."
Patroclus: "A good riddance."
19. "Send him packing""Faith, and I'll send him packing."
20. "Love is blind""...But love is blind and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit;..."
(For loue is blynd alday and may nat see.)
Knock knock! Who's there?""Here's a knocking indeed! If a man were porter of hell-gate, he should have old turning the key.
[Knocking]
Knock,
knock, knock! Who's there, i' the name of Beelzebub?"
