前几年，李安先生有一部很出名的电影上映，名叫《少年派的奇幻漂流》。因为这部电影，这样一个名句火遍全网：心有猛虎，细嗅蔷薇。

后来很多网友说：“李安真有才，这么美的句子，他是怎么想到的呀！”其实，这个句子并非李安写的，而是出自一位名叫西格里夫·萨松的英国诗人。

而且，颇有意思的是：人家原句是英文写的，虽然优美但绝对谈不上有多经典，在中国也不算很火。但经余光中先生翻译成“心有猛虎，细嗅蔷薇”后，其艺术之美硬是达到了相当高度，一炮而红。

那么，问题来了：一首很牛的中文诗，如果翻译成英语又会是怎样呢？

关于这一点，前两年英国BBC的一个记录片，或许能给我一个粗略的答案。当时，BBC花大力气拍了一部名为《杜甫：中国最伟大的诗人》的记录片，向咱们的诗圣致敬。

片子拍得不错，但当英国主持人用英文念出杜甫的“会当凌绝顶，一览众山小”、“无边落木萧萧下，不尽长江滚滚来”时，不少观众都在问：这是什么鬼？美感都被破坏光了！

中文古诗翻译成英文，这条路难道真的不行吗？关于这一点，李白的另一首诗似乎也挺能说明问题。

近些年，李白的诗在欧美国家一直很火，特别是其《长干行二首》更是收割了一大群粉丝。其中有个千古名句，翻译出来是这样的：

不知道大家是否看懂了这几句？直译成白话文，它的意思是：当我的额头刚刚被头发盖过时，我经常跟你一起在门前，咱们一起玩折花的游戏。那时候，我们俩绕着井栏，你骑着玩具小竹马，我们俩打闹起来时，就互相扔掷青梅玩。

这几句英文诗，曾让欧美诗迷一片叫好，纷纷感叹：“太美了！”对于这种现象，很多中国留学生则表示：拜托你们，看看原句吧！

中国留学生之所以这么说，是认为虽然英文版挺美，但跟李白的原句相比，差得确实还太远了。而李白的原句则是：

妾发初覆额，折花门前剧。

郎骑竹马来，绕床弄青梅。

就这么短短20个字，就把英文的3大行字，全部概括了。更重要的是，因为中国古典诗歌讲究格律之美，这20个字读来还更为朗朗上口，充满着韵律之美。

这，其实就是中文之美！

这让笔者想起了，从19世纪末到20世纪50年代，在中国兴起的一阵“废灭汉字”之争。当时，北大著名教授钱玄同等人，都觉得汉字的繁复、难写，导致了中华文明传播起来的诸多困难。因此，“废灭汉字”被反复提及。这一点，大家在电视剧《觉醒年代》里，应该看到过。

随后，罗马字、拉丁化的新文字，都曾一度被说成汉字的替代物。当然，从我们如今的观点来看，支持汉字的包括鲁迅在内的诸多前辈们，他们的出发点都是为了更好的宏扬中华文化。这一点，是值得点赞的。

但最后，经过反复讨论，汉字被保留了下来。也幸亏如此，咱们今天才能继续使用“横平坚直”的方块字。

汉字之美，在于它的稀缺性、严谨性、美观性，更在于其蕴含着太多属于中华文化的古典美。一首普通的英文诗，翻译成中文或许能非常惊艳；但一首经典的中文诗，别的语言却很难展现其真正的美感。我们欢迎更多优秀的翻译家能继续努力，为中国古典诗词走向世界而翻译出更精彩的作品，但笔者始终坚信一点：中文之美，非其它语言能比。对此，大家怎么看？欢迎讨论。
